Building started in 1695 as a summer residence for Elector Sophie Charlotte. It was originally designed by J.A. Nering. His Successors, J.E. Göthe and W.v. Knobelsdorff - in the services of King Frederick II - and C.G. Langhaus completed the ensemble in three styles: baroque, rococo and early classicism. The palace, which also served as Frederick the Great's government domicile, burnt out almost completed in 1944.
