On the Temenite Hill, the Teatro Greco was one of the greatest theaters of the classical period. Hewn from rocks during the reign of Hieron I in the 5th century B.C., the ancient seats have been largely eaten away by time. You can, however, still stand on the remnants of the stone stage that once hosted plays by Euripedes, Aeschylus, and Sophocles.
