In the narrow, cobbled streets of the fishing village behind the beach, boutiques sell clothing and jewellery well beyond the means of the local people, while the Strip, the road that leads from the beach to Montechoro, is lined by the bars, English-style pubs and discos that form the focal point of Albuferia's lively nightlife. The street are attractively paved with black and white mosaics, a traditional form of paving that was originally invented as a way of using up the rubble from houses demolished by the 1755 earthquake.
