Alhambra / Generalife


Later enriched by Moorish occupants into a lavish palace, the Alhambra was originally constructed for defensive purposes on a hilltop's rocky outcropping about the Darro River. The modern city of Granada was built across the river from the Alhambra, about half a mile from its western foundations.
