Carreg Cennen Castle stands high on a remote cliff among the foothills of the Carmarthenshire Black Mountains (Dyfed). The site is spectacular: a limestone crag rising some 300 feet (90m) above the valley of the river Cennen, which isolates it from the hills to the south and west. Perched on its rocky eminence, the castle is visible for miles, and in turn commands wide views.
